Amanda Chan knows it makes sense to work together. And, for groups like Kamloops Innovation Centre, Venture Kamloops and the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce, it means joining forces under Startup Kamloops.
“We’re all doing really similar things,” said Chan, community builder for Kamloops Innovation Centre (KIC). “It makes sense for us.”
Several local groups promoting entrepreneurship in the Tournament Capital make up the new partnership, which falls under Startup Canada, a network of communities providing resources to “help entrepreneurs start up,” Chan said.
Chan said the idea to team up began in November and “everyone was on board right away.”
The group will meet regularly, host events and promote activities to Startup Canada’s national network.
There’s also the opportunity for funding down the road, Chan said, “if we wanted to do a really big conference or get speakers.”
She said the city has many programs supporting entrepreneurs.
“Some of us have specialities in what we focus on,” Chan said. “We’re able to direct people in the right place if they’re looking for specific things.
“We can all work together a bit better.”
A launch party will be held on Thursday, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in KIC’s parking lot at 348 Tranquille Rd. The Eastamore and Cookshack Cravings food trucks will be on hand, along with Red Beard Cafe.
The event is free, but those attending are asked to RSVP online at kamloopsinnovation.ca/event/startup-kamloops-launch-party.
